7-Day Adult-Only Itinerary for Tonga
An adults-only escape is becoming a more and more appealing way to travel the South Pacific. In Tonga, the island groups of Tongatapu and Vava’u are seeing more and more adult-only apartments and resorts where you can enjoy your time in paradise undisturbed. Not to mention, most of the must-do activities in Tonga are directed at adults, whether it’s scuba diving in crystal clear waters or swimming with beautiful humpback whales. We’ll go through where to stay, where to go and what to experience in this Tonga adult-only itinerary for 7 days.
Note that this itinerary is for the active traveller who wants to explore as much as possible in one week. For a more laidback itinerary, take a look at How to Spend 7 Days on an Adult-Only Tonga Vacation TI057.
How to Get Around Tonga in 7 Days
The itinerary below takes you to two different island groups in Tonga, as well as different places across each island group. You’ll need to use both overland and overwater transport to get around, which we give tips on within the itinerary, as well as a quick overview here.
Road Transport in Tonga
Tongatapu and Vava’u’s main islands have roads where taxis, accommodation transfers, guided tours and car rentals are available. Arrange airport transfers with accommodation is often the most straightforward (and cheapest) way to get between airports and your adult-only accommodation.
Overwater Transport in Tonga
By visiting two island groups, you’ll need to take some flights to get around Tonga, which is usually the transport of choice for an adult-only getaway. Flights between Tongatapu and Vava’u operate daily except for Sundays. For getting to island resorts, resorts offer their own boat transfers, which need to be arranged before arrival.

You’ll, again, need to arrange airport transfers to/from both ends of your flight. Once you arrive back in Nuku’alofa, enjoy a meal at one of Nuku’alofa’s restaurants or toast to an amazing week in Tonga at one of Nuku’alofa’s bars!
