2. House of Tonga Hotel
Modern, boutique and in the centre of Nuku’alofa, the House of Tonga Hotel is well worth considering. The hotel has one type of room, a double room with a queen bed, air-conditioning, an ensuite shower, access to an outside deck and a sofa bed, suitable for kids under 11 years old. Other facilities include on-site parking, airport transfers, luggage storage, island tours, free WiFi and a personal refrigerator.

3. Little Italy Hotel
Offering a slightly quieter waterfront option than some other hotels in Nuku’alofa, the Little Italy Hotel is the hotel above the popular Little Italy Restaurant. Standard and Ocean View Rooms are available, with the options for a private balcony and interconnecting rooms, making the hotel ideal for all types of travellers. 4. Emerald Hotel
This hotel might have been around for some time but it still boasts some charm and a convenient waterfront location close to town. The Emerald Hotel has a choice of twin and king rooms with a garden or sea view, the latter to enjoy from your balcony. 5. City Hotel
Stay super-central in the no-nonsense City Hotel. There are nine guest rooms with twin and double layouts available. Rooms are simple yet clean and classically appointed with air-conditioning, tea/coffee-making facilities, a TV and a desk. Breakfast is at an extra cost, as well as car rentals offered to guests at a discounted rate.

6. Tungi Colonnade Hotel

7. JeZAmi Hotel
This locally-owned hotel is another excellent choice in Nuku’alofa, just one street away from the waterfront and within walking distance of the city centre. Rooms are all standardised with twin double bed layout, including cable TV, free WiFi and air-conditioning. Enjoy the included breakfast served at the on-site restaurant, Momma Tuna’s Kitchen, which also serves local, American and Mexican food for dinner. 8. Paradise First Hotel
More like a guest house than a hotel, Paradise First Hotel boasts a homely ambience. Each of the eight guest rooms is unique in its layout and decor but they all feature ensuites. Book one of the four rooms on the top floor and you’ll have access to a shared balcony. The hotel also serves breakfast (not always included in the rate so be sure to inquire) and offer secure on-site parking. 9. Coastline Hotel
Stay close to the boat tours, as well as the waterfront restaurants and bars, at the Coastline Hotel in Nuku’alofa. The hotel is basic but freshly decorated with a minimalist approach across its range of double and twin rooms. 10. Seaview Lodge & Restaurant
While advertised as a lodge, there are some elements similar to a boutique hotel that hotel frequenters will appreciate. Stay in one of the double guest rooms or premium suite for four guests, with options to upgrade to a sea view and a balcony. Rooms are well-presented with a mix of colonial and Tongan decor. Breakfast and WiFi are included in the stay.
