Air New Zealand

As a hub for flight connections across the South Pacific, New Zealand is one of the easiest countries to make connections with Tonga, particularly with New Zealand’s national airline, Air New Zealand.

Air New Zealand operates non-stop flights between Tongatapu (Fua’amotu Airport) and Auckland (New Zealand). The 3-hour flight arrives and departs once a day except for Sundays, throughout most of the year with slightly reduced schedules during the low season – around February and March.

Fiji Airways

For travelling between Tonga and some of the largest travel hubs in the South Pacific, choose Fiji Airways. The airline offers flights between Tonga, Fiji and New Zealand.

Fiji Airways connects Tonga to Fiji with 1 hr 30 min flights between Tongatapu (Fua’amotu Airport) and Nadi Airport (Fiji), as well as between Vava’u (Lupepau’u Airport) and Nadi which takes 2 hrs 10 mins.

The frequency of flights to Tonga is very seasonal with Fiji Airways, which will put on more flights in the high season, typically between June and November. Otherwise, flights between Fiji and both Tongatapu and Vava’u occur at least weekly, if not twice or three times a week.

Nadi Airport offers a convenient connecting airport to other South Pacific Islands, as well as Pacific Rim countries such as the US, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

One of Australia’s leading airlines, Qantas offers direct flights between Tonga and Australia.

Qantas runs flights approximately two times a week between Sydney (Australia) and Tongatapu (Faleolo Airport). The trip takes approximately 4 hrs 40 mins.

Sydney Airport makes a convenient connecting airport if travelling from further afield, particularly from Asia or elsewhere in Australia.

Talofa Airways

Talofa Airways is one of the newest airlines to service Tonga, operating non-stop flights between Tonga, Samoa and American Samoa.

There are two flights per week between Faleolo Airport (Samoa) and Lupepau’u Airport (Vava’u), which takes around 1 hr 15 mins. There is also a twice-a-week flight between Pago Pago Airport (American Samoa) and Lupepau’u Airport, which also takes 1 hr 15 mins.

Flights are in Twin Commander aircraft where your entertainment and the views of the South Pacific Ocean and its islands. Charter flights are also available.
